Malaysia-UAE relations are enhanced to a strategic partnership
ABU DHABI: Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to raise the level of relations between the two countries to a strategic partnership after the bilateral relations have been established since the early 1970s.
The improvement in the level of relations was achieved through a meeting between the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
In fact, Ismail Sabri described the atmosphere of the discussion at that time as very friendly and “full of family”.
“The meeting took place in a very friendly and familial atmosphere because the UAE considers Malaysia as a family.
“This is because of the very close relationship between the President of the UAE and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah,” said the Prime Minister in a press conference in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
The recognition of the strategic partnership also follows the strengthening trade relationship between the two countries, especially when the value of Malaysia-UAE trade increased by 90.4 percent in the first eight months of 2022, amounting to RM25.6 billion.
The amount exceeds the total value in 2021 which is as much as RM22.29 billion.
