Malaysia’s Biodiversity Information System Recognized as the Best
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has been recognized for having the best National Information Center Mechanism (CHM) related to biodiversity through the Malaysian Biodiversity Information System (MyBIS).
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability (NRES) stated that this recognition was awarded when Malaysia received the Gold Award at the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Cali, Colombia, last Thursday.
“Through the CHM award, it is recognition from the CBD for member countries that have demonstrated the most significant achievements in developing the CHM at the national level,” said NRES in a statement today.
NRES added that the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, represented the country in receiving the award from CBD Executive Secretary Astrid Schomaker.
“Nik Nazmi urged that MyBIS be fully utilized to strengthen efforts to conserve the nation’s biodiversity,” the statement added.
MyBIS is a CHM developed as a national biodiversity database since 2016. Currently, MyBIS, accessible via www.mybis.gov.my, contains more than 1.2 million data records covering species profiles, specimen records, toxicology, protected areas, expert directories, reference materials, and publications.
