Malaysia’s only two-time PM Dr Mahathir turns 99

Tuesday, July 10th, KUALA LUMPUR: Today, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who has served as Prime Minister on two separate occasions, is celebrating his 99th birthday.

In the year 1925, Dr. Mahathir was born in the city of Alor Setar, which is the capital of the state of Kedah.

On several occasions, his longevity has been the subject of inquiry during interviews, and he has frequently attributed it to the fact that he has maintained both physical and mental activity during his senior years.

Earlier this year, the former Prime Minister had a health crisis, which resulted in his spending over two months in the National Heart Institute (IJN).

The influence that Dr. Mahathir has had on Malaysia may be observed in the messages that were sent to him on his birthday, which either wished him well or criticised him. Dr. Mahathir is a controversial figure in Malaysian politics.

Through his first term as Malaysia’s longest serving prime minister and his return in 2018, after which he suddenly resigned to envelop the country in political upheaval that continues to some degree today, Dr. Mahathir has left indelible traces on the country. His actions have left an indelible impact on the nation.
