Melaka’s Retail Sector Continues to Grow – CM Melaka
MELAKA: The retail sector in Melaka is experiencing positive growth, highlighted by the opening of more premium, stand-alone supermarkets. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh stated that this development reflects the rising economic growth and purchasing power in Melaka.
“Today, the opening of the first Jaya Grocer in Melaka, which is also the chain’s 51st branch, is expected to enrich the retail landscape of the state,” he said.
“The presence of premium stand-alone supermarkets like this aligns with the state government’s vision to provide access to high-quality products and services for local residents,” he added during a press conference following the supermarket’s opening ceremony in Klebang on Saturday. Jaya Grocer’s CEO, Adelene Foo, was also present at the event.
Ab Rauf mentioned that the opening of the supermarket in Klebang will create more job opportunities for the local community, especially since the area is part of a new economic development zone.
“As we know, Melaka has 23 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers, and we must prepare our workforce based on the industry’s demand. The opening of such supermarkets is an excellent way to provide diverse job opportunities,” he said.
He also noted that the supermarket, which features a unique Peranakan design, is expected to attract not only local shoppers but also tourists from abroad.
