MIDF launches inaugural Malaysia Smart Manufacturing Awards to recognise, celebrate local industries

KUALA LUMPUR (July 25): Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) has recently launched the inaugural Malaysia Smart Manufacturing Awards (MSMA) to recognise and celebrate smart manufacturing achievements and foster Malaysian industries toward manufacturing excellence, innovation, and resilience.

The awards ceremony was attended by over 400 guests, including the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (Miti) Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, senior officials from Miti, MIDF, and other Miti agencies, industry leaders and business chamber representatives.

The MSMA, co-organised by Bizsphere Sdn Bhd and Smart4wrd, with Sirim as Smart Manufacturing Ecosystem Partner, marked a major step towards Malaysia’s adoption of Industry 4.0 and future-proofing its manufacturers by strengthening resilience.

Malaysia’s industrial environment has been transformed by smart manufacturing methods, and the awards aim to make the country a regional powerhouse for manufacturing excellence, innovation, and efficiency.

Tengku Zafrul gave the keynote presentation and presented 23 awards, including the Leadership in Smart Manufacturing Award and IR4.0 Readiness, Open, and Industry 4.0 Pillars awards.

“I commend MIDF on the inaugural Malaysia Smart Manufacturing Awards (MSMA), which is a key step in the right direction towards realising Malaysia’s NIMP 2030 goal of becoming a regional smart manufacturing hub.

“The MSMA awards celebrate exceptional IR4.0 technology application and stimulate investment and continual improvement across many industries, preparing domestic firms to enter into foreign investors’ ecosystems and global supply chains,” he said.

Meanwhile, MIDF CEO Azizi Mustafa said the MSMA emphasised MIDF’s common aim to establish Malaysia as a manufacturing hub for innovation and efficiency.

“Smart manufacturing requires implementing technology and maximising Industry 4.0 technologies to promote growth and stay competitive worldwide,” he said.

Bizsphere Managing Consultant Yap Keng Teck remarked: “MSMA notes that many SMEs are becoming smart factories. We hope those who haven’t started smart manufacturing would start now and seize the chances.”

Also present at the ceremony were Miti secretary-general Dato’ Hairil Yahri Yaacob, Miti deputy secretary-general (Trade) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa, and MBSB Bhd chairman Dato Wan Kamaruzaman Wan Ahmad and MIDF chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat.

The event was sponsored by FSBM MES Elite, SHRDC, RAM, SmartB Solutions, EcoWorld, Avis and Teibto.

The MSMA fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and Industry 4.0 adoption for Malaysia’s manufacturing sector’s sustainable growth.
