MP Syed Saddiq Challenges Government’s Fund Revocation: Alleges Discrimination and Unconstitutional Actions

KUALA LUMPUR (May 6): Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, along with three constituents, has taken legal action to challenge the government’s decision to revoke his access to the myKHAS system, which oversees RM2 million in funds allocated for the Johor constituency.

Syed Saddiq asserts that the withdrawal of his access occurred shortly after his party, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda), withdrew support for the unity government last September. Despite efforts to address the issue with Deputy Prime Minister II Fadillah Yusof, Syed Saddiq claims that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the federal government have failed to allocate funds for the Muar area.

Speaking outside the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today, Syed Saddiq expressed disappointment at the government’s failure to address the matter despite his efforts. He emphasized that his situation differs from that of other opposition parliamentarians who pledged support for the unity government, alleging that their constituencies immediately received full allocations.

Syed Saddiq views the government’s decision as discriminatory and unconstitutional, arguing that it violates his rights as an elected representative. He contends that the abrupt halt in allocations following Muda’s withdrawal of support amounts to revenge politics, particularly affecting the constituents of Muar.

In his legal claim, Syed Saddiq seeks to overturn the decisions affecting his access to funds and demands the restoration of his access to the myKHAS system. Additionally, he requests the court to compel the government to allocate RM500,000 for welfare and disaster programs, as well as approve and allocate funds amounting to RM230,300 for various projects, including the development of a school’s resource center.

Furthermore, Syed Saddiq demands that the allocation for the Muar parliament service center be disbursed at the same rate as government MPs for the current year. This legal action marks the latest development in Syed Saddiq’s ongoing efforts to challenge the government’s handling of constituency funds.
