Nancy: 13 GISBH children remain unclaimed after Op Global

KUCHING (Jan 27): Thirteen children out of the 560 who were rescued under Op Global, which involved GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) members, remain unclaimed and are currently placed in institutions managed by the Social Welfare Department (JKM), said Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said six of the children were placed at the institution under Section 30(1)(d) of the Child Act 2001, while the other seven are under interim orders.

“We have contacted their parents to attend court to sign the documents for the return of their children.

“At first, they were interested, however, they changed their minds and decided not to take their children back, possibly following advice from certain parties planning legal action against us,” she said.

The Santubong MP said this when met by reporters after officiating at the 2025 National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month programme held here today.

Moreover, she divulged that 536 children have been returned to their families, and 11 have been placed under the care of Fit and Proper Persons (OYLS).

Meanwhile, JKM director Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said parents who wish to claim their respective children must follow several conditions.

“The parents must provide their home address; the children must be given formal education; and the parents are to report to the department within a year for the close monitoring of the children.

“The parents must also attend court proceedings during the handover process, during which the conditions will be read out, and then they will need to sign an agreement before the handover,” he said.

He added that these measures are done to protect the children’s welfare.

Nancy said 475 children have been returned to their families under Section 30(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, while five have been placed under OYLS in accordance with the same act.

Previously, it was reported that 80 children of former GISBH members had not been claimed by their parents.
