Qatar Airways launches a city check-in service in Mecca to boost travel ease for pilgrims, offering early check-in and luggage drop before reaching Jeddah airport.

Qatar Airways Launches City Check-In Facility in Mecca to Enhance Pilgrim Travel Experience

Qatar Airways has unveiled a new early check-in service in Mecca, aimed at streamlining the journey for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims by offering a more convenient and seamless travel experience. Developed in partnership with Saudi Ground Services (SGS), this innovative offering enables travelers departing from Jeddah to finalize their check-in, collect their boarding passes, and hand over their luggage directly within the city—eliminating long queues and reducing processing times at the airport.

Pilgrim Travel Made Easier from Mecca

Effective from March 1, 2025, this city check-in facility is available at the Makkah Clock Royal Tower, a Fairmont Hotel, which is conveniently positioned with direct access from the L2 ring road. By completing all pre-flight formalities in Mecca, pilgrims can now enjoy a more relaxed departure experience, with their luggage securely transferred to the airport well in advance of their flight.

This thoughtful initiative offers a hassle-free start to the journey, enabling pilgrims to focus more on their religious duties and less on logistical concerns. With this service, passengers benefit from expedited processing at Jeddah airport and improved travel efficiency.

About the Sacred City of Mecca

Located in the western region of Saudi Arabia, Mecca is Islam’s most revered city. Situated in Makkah Province, approximately 70 kilometers east of Jeddah and close to the Red Sea, Mecca holds profound religious significance. It is the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad and the focal point of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. At the heart of the city lies the Kaaba, housed within the Masjid al-Haram (Grand Mosque), recognized as Islam’s holiest site. As a sacred destination, Mecca remains accessible exclusively to Muslims.

Qatar Airways Strengthens Saudi Connectivity

As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing passenger convenience and regional access, Qatar Airways currently operates over 120 flights weekly to 11 destinations across Saudi Arabia. This includes 35 weekly services between Doha and Jeddah, reinforcing the airline’s dedication to facilitating travel for pilgrims and other travelers alike.

By introducing this Mecca-based check-in service, Qatar Airways not only enhances operational efficiency but also contributes to a more spiritually enriching and comfortable travel journey for thousands of worshippers.
