One Dead Due To Weather-Related Disasters In Sri Lanka
COLOMBO, May 23 (NNN-XINHUA) – One person died in Sri Lanka, due to disasters triggered by the adverse weather conditions, currently affecting the country, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), said yesterday.
The DMC said, 68,079 people from 17,230 families remain affected by disasters, such as floods, tree falls and strong winds. According to the DMC, the affected people are from 15 districts in the Northern, Central, Southern, North-western, Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-central provinces of the country.
Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, in its latest forecast, said, the south-west monsoon conditions are gradually establishing over the island, and prevailing showery and windy conditions will continue further.
