
Petronas, MLNG at forefront of Bintulu flood relief efforts
BINTULU (Feb 2): The floods in Bintulu may have brought devastation to the division, but they have also highlighted the incredible resilience and generosity of the community. Since the onset of the disaster, corporations, government agencies, local residents and many other parties have come together to provide continuous assistance to those affected.
Among them are Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and its subsidiary Malaysia LNG Group of Companies (MLNG), who have been at the forefront of the relief efforts. “From the very first day of the floods, Petronas and MLNG have provided essential supplies to the victims.
“These supplies include food and beverage packages for 1,450 families, as well as petrol and vehicles to transport flood victims to temporary evacuation centres (PPS),” said Petronas senior vice president of LNG Assets Abang Yusuf Abang Puteh.
He said the donations were delivered to several PPS including at the Bintulu Civic Centre, Jepak, and SMK Assyakirin Sungai Plan.
Met during the handover of donations at the civic centre recently, Abang Yusuf said support was also extended to the operations room staff at the Bintulu Resident’s Office and Sebauh District Office.
“MLNG remains committed to working with government agencies in the spirit of solidarity to assist flood victims in Bintulu Division,” he added.
Among those present at the civic centre for the aid handover were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Samalaju assemblyman Dato Majang Renggi, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Phang Leong Ming, and Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee.
Also in attendance was MLNG managing director and CEO Mohamed Syazwan Abdullah @ Laga Jenggi.
In addition to corporate support, local government agencies and community groups have been working tirelessly to assist the flood victims. The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee has been coordinating the overall response, ensuring that emergency response teams are on the ground providing aid and managing the crisis.
Local folks have also shown incredible solidarity and compassion, with volunteers from various community groups helping with the distribution of supplies, cleaning of homes, and providing emotional support to those in need.
As the floodwaters recede and the community begins to rebuild, the continuous assistance provided by all parties serves as a beacon of hope. The collaborative efforts of all parties demonstrate the strength and unity of Bintulu in the face of adversity.
The journey to recovery may be long, but with the unwavering support of the community, Bintulu will rise above this disaster stronger than ever.
