Sabah fields among bids for upcoming Petronas MBR 2025
KUCHING (Jan 21): Two oilfields offshore Sabah are set to be two clusters of discovered resource opportunities (DRO) up for bidding in Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) upcoming Malaysia Bid Round 2025 (MBR 2025).
Petronas, via Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), is set to formally launch this year’s MBR on February 17, 2025.
The upcoming bid round offers significant opportunity for investors to explore Malaysia’s upstream oil and gas potential, Petronas said on its website.
The Mutiara DRO Cluster covers the Nymphe, Nymphe North, Kuda Terbang, Mutiara Hitam and Benrinnes fields offshore Sabah. Meanwhile, the Permata Cluster includes South East Collins, Lokan, Realgar, Axinit and Manikam fields offshore Sabah.
The other cluster up for bids is Temaris offshore Peninsular Malaysia, covering the Mengkuang and Tembakau fields.
The deadline for bid submissions for the Mutiara and Temaris clusters is March 13, 2025, while the deadline for Permata Cluster is June 16. All three bids are for small field asset production sharing contracts (PSCs).
Last year, under MRB 2024, Petronas offered five exploration blocks and five clusters of DRO to potential investors.
The five exploration blocks are located in emerging basins namely Langkasuka Basin in the Straits of Melaka, Semporna and Sandakan Basins off the eastern coast of Sabah.
Additionally, the three DRO clusters offered in 2024 are within shallow waters of Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, and the two DRO clusters are within the deepwater realm of Sabah.
Petronas has established myPROdata, a smart platform offering exclusive access to comprehensive data and insights, empowering investors to make more informed decisions.
The MBR invitation to bid, bid guideline and company qualification requirement will be accessible via Petronas’s myPROdata on February 17, 2025.
