SCCC explores trade and investment opportunities at Maritime Silk Road Conference

KOTA KINABALU (April 7): Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) president Datuk Franke Liew attended the Second “Maritime Silk Road” Overseas Chinese Business Investment and Trade Conference & Quanzhou High-Quality Domestic and Foreign Trade Development Conference in Quanzhou from April 1 to 3.

Together with Quanzhou city leaders and business leaders from China and abroad, they jointly explored the potential for mutual advancement and win-win cooperation between overseas Chinese businesspeople, Quanzhou entrepreneurs and Quanzhou itself.

Following the welcome dinner of the conference, Liew expressed his hope that by participating in such events, Sabah businesses could enhance communication and friendship with Chinese and overseas Quanzhou entrepreneurs and overseas Chinese merchants, and jointly pursue development.

“In addition to gaining a deeper understanding of Quanzhou, we also hope to share important information regarding development opportunities, industrial advantages, and the business environment between Sabah and Quanzhou with overseas Chinese merchants, encouraging them to invest in Sabah,” he said.

He also expressed hope that through this participation, it would be possible to better connect the global resources of Quanzhou and overseas Chinese entrepreneurs with Sabah, promote high-quality domestic and international trade, and attract more key resources to focus on both Quanzhou and Sabah.

He emphasized the importance of promoting quality products and services from Quanzhou and Sabah to the international market.

Themed “Harness Overseas Chinese Strength, Connect Globally, Develop Together”, the conference aims to be a bridge to connect global resources of overseas Chinese and Quanzhou entrepreneurs, to promote high-quality development in both domestic and international trade, gather more essential resources in Quanzhou, and accelerate the city’s role as a strategic hub in the dual-circulation economy.

Distinguished guests attending the welcome dinner included Huang Yangchun, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Quanzhou Municipal People’s Congress; Wang Chunlei, Vice Mayor of Quanzhou; Zhuang Canxia, Vice Chairperson of the CPPCC Quanzhou Committee; Xu Yingying, Deputy Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Quanzhou Municipal Party Committee; Chen Fengsheng, Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Fengze District, Quanzhou.
Business representatives included Cheuk Yuk Sang, Chairman of Longda (Hong Kong) Group and Member of the CPPCC Fujian Provincial Committee; Huang Guohua, Chairman of Quanzhou Huaxin Group; Cheng Peizhi, President of the International Belt and Road Construction Development Chamber of Commerce; Weng Guoquan, Chairman of Quanzhou Foreign Ship Agency; Wang Zhiwen, Chairman of Jiangsu Futai Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. and Executive President of the German Chinese Cultural Promotion Association; Zheng Chengbo, CEO of Tongyi Group; Datuk Hong Zhengxian, President of the Malaysian Anxi Chamber of Commerce; Chen Zhiwen, President of the Philippine Chinese Entrepreneurs Cooperation and Exchange Association; Tina Gao, Director of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce; Chen Lei, President of the Nan’an Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce.

Cheng Peizhi proposed several initiatives at the conference:
1. Deepening the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Maritime Silk Road
2. Promoting new models for Quanzhou products to expand overseas
3. Strengthening talent exchange and cultivation
4. Promoting cultural and trade integration
5. Enhancing financial services and innovation

The Second “Maritime Silk Road” Overseas Chinese Business Investment and Trade Conference & Quanzhou High-Quality Domestic and Foreign Trade Development Conference included 12 events, such as the launching ceremony of the “Overseas Chinese Supporting Thousands of Enterprises and Products to Go Global” initiative and the release of a cross-border public service platform.

Other featured activities included the cross-border business matchmaking sessions for overseas Chinese entrepreneurs, visits to industrial belts, and the Global Quanzhou Youth Elite Gathering.

Over 1,000 guests from both China and overseas attended the event.
