Shamsul Azri has been appointed as the Chairman of the Energy Commission from January 1 2025.

PUTRAJAYA: The government has agreed to appoint Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar as the new Chairman of the Energy Commission (ST), and the appointment will take effect tomorrow.

ST in a statement today said that Shamsul Azri, who is 55 years old, has worked in the public service for more than 30 years. He has worked in several places such as the Ministry of Finance, the Public Service Department, the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS), and the State Government Administration.

ST supports Shamsul Azri to lead and advance the ST agenda.

“ST would like to thank Datuk Mohamad Razif Abd Mubin for his contributions and services during his tenure as the ST Interim Chairman,” the commission said.

Established under the Energy Commission Act 2001, the Energy Commission (ST) is responsible for overseeing the energy sector, especially in the production of electricity and piped gas in Peninsular Malaysia.
