Sustainable Energy Supply Bolsters Sabah’s Socio-Economic Growth – Chief Minister Hajiji

KIMANIS (Nov 12) – Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor has highlighted the role of sustainable energy in enhancing quality of life and driving socio-economic development in Sabah. Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new power plant in Kimanis, Hajiji underscored the state’s commitment to advancing energy infrastructure and management through the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040).

“SE-RAMP 2040 represents a significant commitment to ensuring a sustainable, accessible, and affordable energy supply for Sabah’s people,” said Hajiji, emphasizing the roadmap’s alignment with the government’s vision of statewide electricity coverage. He added that the establishment of the Sabah Energy Council (MTS) would oversee initiatives to strengthen the state’s energy capacity.

One of the latest projects under MTS is the development of a 100-megawatt (MW) power plant by Kimanis Power (Dua) Sdn Bhd, a project expected to enhance the grid’s resilience and meet Sabah’s growing energy needs. “This new plant will play a critical role in stabilizing electricity supply for industries and communities alike, ensuring long-term benefits for the people of Sabah,” said Hajiji.

The Chief Minister spoke during the 15th anniversary celebration of Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd and the launch of the new power plant, marking a milestone in Sabah’s energy sector development. He praised the collaborative efforts between Yayasan Sabah Group and Petronas Gas Berhad, which have positioned Kimanis Power as a vital independent power producer in the state.

Hajiji highlighted the energy sector as a key economic driver, noting its substantial contribution to Sabah’s growth over the years. He commended Petronas for its ongoing partnership, which he said has gone beyond energy production to support human capital development, skills training, and local vendor empowerment. “Petronas’ contributions are instrumental in both economic and social progress, enhancing livelihoods and creating opportunities for Sabah’s youth,” he said.

In closing, Hajiji congratulated Kimanis Power on its 15 years of achievements and expressed optimism for further innovations and partnerships to continue strengthening Sabah’s energy infrastructure and economy.
