Tengkujuh: Tourism industry operators in Terengganu are still operating as usual
KUALA TERENGGANU: The tourism industry in Terengganu including resort islands and Lake Kenyir is still operating as usual even though the monsoon season will hit soon.
Several operators in the Terengganu tourism industry contacted by DagangNews.com informed that people are welcome to come on vacation to Terengganu to see for themselves the life of the people in the state during the monsoon season.
Chairman of the Perhentian Island Resort and Tourism Association, Abdul Aziz Che Abdullah said, basically, all water activities such as snorkeling and scuba diving will not be done due to safety factors.
According to him, the activity is not allowed because tourism operators will not compromise on the lives and safety of tourists because the current is very strong and the waves are also very high during the monsoon season.
“However, tourists can still come to the traditional fishing village on Perhentian Island to see the life of the people here more closely.
“Here, there are complete facilities such as a food court, a mosque, a grocery store, a police station and a clinic that are suitable for those who want to experience the life of the fishing community on Perhentian Island.
“Most homestays and small chalets still welcome tourists and they can enjoy the delicious food of Terengganu’s heritage on the resort island,” he said when contacted by DagangNews.com today.
The Northeast Monsoon is expected to start from November 2022 to February 2023, which risks causing flooding in low-lying settlements and riverside areas.
In addition, the Chairman of Lake Kenyir Tourism Association, Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim, said that all 72 boat operators in the lake are ready to accept bookings for tourists in the monsoon season, especially die-hard anglers from all over the world.
According to him, from time immemorial Lake Kenyir will receive an influx of tourists throughout the monsoon season because the fishing is more lively and many organizers choose it as the location for world-class fishing competitions.
“So far the bookings received are encouraging and people can continue to contact boat operators who offer various holiday packages to suit their budget.
“Regarding the safety aspect, we always remind all boat operators to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the authorities so that tourists can enjoy a comfortable and safe holiday at Lake Kenyir throughout the monsoon season,” he said.
In agreement with him is the Chairman of the Malaysian Hotel Association (MAH) Terengganu Chapter, Suaibah Harun who hopes that people will continue to wish to go on holiday to the city of Kuala Terengganu which is famous as a ‘coastal heritage city’.
“Don’t worry about coming to Terengganu during the monsoon season because interesting locations such as Kedai Payang Market, Dataran Batu Buruk and the Kuala Terengganu Lift Bridge are still operating as usual.
“The same goes for restaurant operators and eateries that serve traditional food such as nasi dagang, keropok lekor, satar and laksam….all of them do not close operations during the monsoon season.
“For the fans of handicrafts, songket and batik, they can visit business premises owned by local entrepreneurs to have various latest designs at cheap prices.
“All hotels under MAH Terengganu are also ready to welcome tourists and will provide the best service and hospitality to ensure tourists enjoy a beautiful and sweet vacation to remember during their stay in Terengganu,” he said.
