Thailand targets to be in Top 5 Muslim Tourist Destination by 2027
BANGKOK, (Bernama) – In a bid to be one of the top five destinations for Muslim tourists by 2027, Thailand has implemented a number of initiatives that cater to the needs of Muslim travellers.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhanadirek said the government has placed importance on the Muslim travel segment and market as the kingdom has become a major destination for Muslim tourists across the globe.
“Last year, more than 3 million Muslim tourists visited the country, most of whom were travellers with high-purchasing power.
“According to the survey of MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index 2022, Thailand ranks third as popular non-Muslim countries/states/territories among Muslim tourists, only preceded by Singapore and Taiwan,” she said in a statement.
Rachada said tourism service business operators, concerned public agencies, and others who are interested can participate in trainings on Muslim tourists’ behaviour and characteristics, as well as how to design tourism products and services that meet their needs.
“Trainings have been conducted for participants to learn about the government’s 5-year strategic plan on capacity development for the promotion of the Muslim travel market (2023-2027),” she said.
The five strategies are standardising tourism operations for Muslim travel segment, developing tourism products, services, and activities to accommodate Muslim tourists; promoting use of technology to facilitate Muslim tourists; integrating cooperation between concerned agencies; and increasing market opportunities and building awareness among Muslim tourists on Thailand’s readiness to receive them.
“The government is hopeful that the incoming government will continue to support the 5-year strategic plan to make Thailand one of the top five destinations for Muslim tourists by 2027, as targeted,” she said.
Thailand targets at least 30 million tourists to visit the country this year and 1.5 trillion baht in tourist expenditure, according to projections by the Tourism Council.
