The Indonesian Parliament passed a personal data bill

JAKARTA: Indonesia’s House of Representatives approved the personal data bill on Tuesday, Communications and Information Technology Minister Johnny G. Plate said after a plenary session to enact the new law.

The minister said the bill, proposed in 2016, would strengthen trust and recognize Indonesia’s leadership in global data governance, Xinhua reported .

“From the government’s perspective, the data protection law will strengthen the government’s role and power in enforcing and monitoring the compliance and obligations of all data operators,” said Plate.
