The Snow Is Coming – One Month to Go Till skiScandinavia Opens for Another Season!

Temperatures are dropping, the first snowflakes have hit the ground, and the forecast is looking promising with more snow anticipated over the next few weeks, ready for the season opening on 14 December 2024. Unsure of which resort to visit? MD Ben Nyberg gives his take on the various ski areas. When it comes to family ski holidays, skiScandinavia is the way to go. There’s still a few spots open for the 2025 February half-term break, and the early birds can start booking for the winter 2025/2026 season already!

Opening of the 2024 / 2025 season

The klaxon’s going to sound on December 14th, kicking off the 2024/2025 ski season in the Norwegian slopes of Hemsedal and Trysil, as well as the Swedish resorts of Kläppen, Sälen, and Stöten. Skiers are in for a long season – it’s gonna run all the way until 27th April 2025, and if the weather’s anything like past winters, skiers can count on secure snow conditions throughout.

Do you know your Trysil from your Kläppen?

Earlier this autumn we asked the MD Ben Nyberg to give his take on the characteristics about the different resorts:

‘The resorts are all unique and special in their own way. Hemsedal ski resort, which is often referred to as the ‘Scandinavian Alps’, is where I lived, worked and raised a family for many years so it will always be special to me – it’s also a paradise for off piste skiing! Stöten is one of the most welcoming and friendly ski resorts I’ve ever skied in – it feels like a home from home. Trysil is Norway’s largest ski resort and has amazing skiing for all abilities. Kläppen ski resort was built by a family, for families – it exudes charm. Hundfjället & Lindvallen are part of Sweden’s largest ski area, Sälen, and is the go-to destination for the ultimate in Swedish skiing.’

Family Ski Holidays

Half-term is one of the most popular times to go on a family holiday, and often one of the busiest on the slopes. This winter the majority of school holidays in Scandinavia is the week prior to the UK half-term meaning quieter resorts, less queues, and more space in ski schools. There is still some availability with direct flights from London Gatwick to Scandinavian Mountain Airports and very short transfers – we are talking 40 min to Norway and a mere 10 min to Sweden.
