The US reported more than 100,000 cases of child COVID-19 over the past 4 weeks
LOS ANGELES: More than 106,000 cases of COVID-19 infection involving children were reported in the United States in the last four weeks, according to a report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association.
According to the report, nearly 15.5 million children in the country have been infected with COVID-19 since the epidemic began, Xinhua reported.
In the past five months, the weekly reported cases of infections involving children have increased by an average of about 32,000 cases.
There is a need to collect more data particularly involving age to assess the degree of associated disease and new variants and potential long-term effects.
According to the AAP, there are immediate effects on children’s health, but long-term effects on the physical, mental and social well-being of the next generation of children and youth also need to be identified.
