TNB collaborates with central Medicare on Solar Solutions to achieve ESG goals
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), through its wholly owned subsidiary GSPARX Sdn Bhd (GSPARX), continues to garner support from the manufacturing industry, further accelerating the nation’s energy transition drive. The latest partnership with Central Medicare Sdn Bhd (CMSB) exemplifies this commitment.
CMSB, which is the subsidiary of HARPS Global Pte Ltd, signed the Supply Agreement with Renewable Energy (SARE), where GSPARX will install a rooftop solar photovoltaic system at the CMSB factory and hostel sites in Teluk Intan, Perak, with a total capacity of 6.039 MWp.
TNB President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Indera Ir. Baharin Din said the implementation of the green technology initiative aligns with TNB’s dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and aims to amplify the positive effects of eco-friendly progress while promoting universal well-being.
“The signing ceremony symbolises all parties’ strong commitment to work together towards a common goal – achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 through sustainable practices in our business and community ecosystems. The installation will be completed in two phases: the first by the end of September 2023 and the second by the end of June 2024.
“Upon completion of the installation, the rooftop solar can deliver 8,163 MWh of solar energy per year. This equates to more than 5,000 metric tonnes of CO2 offset annually, equivalent to over 58 thousand tree seedlings grown for 10 years,” he added.
Besides this SARE signing, CMSB successfully renewed its subscription to the Green Electricity Tariff (GET) with a capacity of 10 GWh in support of Malaysia’s commitment to becoming a zero-carbon country as early as 2050.
The SARE was signed by TNB Retail Division’s Head of State Retail (Perak), Ir. Mohd Azhar Rashid; GSPARX Managing Director, Elmie Fairul Mashuri; HARPS Global Pte Ltd Group Chief Executive Officer, Haziq Zairel Oh; and witnessed by TNB Retail Division’s State Retail Partner (Perak) Lead, Ir. Ts. Mohd Rohaizan Samsuddin; and CMSB Chief Technology Officer, Lee Chee Sian in Ipoh on 27 June 2023.
Speaking at the event, Haziq said, “One of our core values in HARPS is sustainability. We place a strong emphasis on environmental conversations, and we are committed to minimising the potential impact of our operations on the environment. The introduction of solar energy in our factory can reduce carbon emissions by approximately 5,215 metric tons per year and enjoy cost reductions of up to RM 72 million over 25 years.”
To date, GSPARX has secured 414 projects with commercial, industrial & government organisations, generating 279.2 MWp of solar capacity. Among them are Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad (MYDIN), S P Setia, Sime Darby Properties, Public Works Department (JKR), SIRIM, FELDA, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Johor Bahru City Council, Seremban City Council, Ipoh City Council, Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan, University Putra Malaysia (UPM), University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), TATI University College (TATIUC), Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Perak Transit, Lumileds, SKF Bearing, CJ Bio, Spirit Aerosystems, Primula Beach Hotel, Smart Modular Penang and Seng Hin Rubber (M) Sdn.
