TNB Empowers Mosques as Community Hubs through Ramadan Zakat Wakalah Contributions
In its efforts to strengthen the role of mosques as progressive and inclusive community centers, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has contributed RM400,000 in the form of Zakat Wakalah to 20 selected mosques around Penang through this year’s Ihya Ramadan Program.
Each mosque received RM20,000 to support the implementation of ongoing welfare and community development activities, as well as to upgrade mosque facilities. These upgrades include roof repairs, improvements to air-conditioning and lighting systems, enhancements to prayer areas, the construction of additional restrooms, and the installation of audiovisual systems to aid religious classes and lectures. This ensures that mosques not only serve as places of worship but also function as centers for learning, welfare, and social unity.
The contributions were handed over by TNB Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid to representatives of the participating mosques. The handover ceremony was also witnessed by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who attended the Official Opening Ceremony of Masjid Jamek Perai.
According to Tan Sri Abdul Razak, this initiative reflects TNB’s commitment to enhancing the role of mosques as vital community centers for social development and local well-being, especially in shaping a more prosperous future for society.
“TNB is not just an electricity provider; we are part of the community, and this is proof of our commitment. This Zakat Wakalah contribution is our responsibility to religious institutions, ensuring that mosques remain places of refuge, support, and hope for those in need. In the spirit of Ramadan, we hope this contribution brings deeper meaning to the people, whether through improved facilities or direct aid to the underprivileged,” he said.
This initiative also reflects TNB’s support for the Malaysia Madani aspirations, which emphasize values of sustainability, well-being, and social inclusivity. By empowering religious institutions as community development hubs, it helps support vulnerable groups and fosters compassion and unity within society.
As part of its ongoing efforts, TNB is also hosting the Ihya’ Ramadan Program at the An-Nur Islamic Centre Complex in Bangsar, underscoring its commitment as a community partner. Activities include daily tarawih prayers, iftar meals, and the distribution of over 2,000 food packs. The public is invited to experience the vibrant spirit of Ramadan and strengthen communal ties.
