TNB Takes Proactive Steps, Adopts 20 Schools Under Government’s Initiative

PUTRAJAYA, March 20, 2025 – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has stepped forward as the first corporation to support the School Adoption Initiative, taking 20 schools under its wing as part of the government’s plan to strengthen the education sector.

This initiative, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, aims to encourage corporate and government-linked companies (GLCs) to adopt a total of 500 schools to help improve infrastructure and resources. Minister of Communications, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, confirmed that TNB is leading the way in this effort.

“TNB’s commitment is a great example of how the corporate sector can contribute to national development. We hope more companies will step up to support our schools,” he said during his weekly press conference.

How TNB is Helping Schools
TNB’s involvement in the School Adoption Initiative will focus on upgrading facilities, enhancing power supply stability, and supporting digital and STEM education programs. Some of the key areas of assistance include:

✅ Improving school infrastructure and maintenance
✅ Providing better electricity access for classrooms and facilities
✅ Supporting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education programs
✅ Ensuring rural schools receive better learning resources

With this initiative, TNB is not just providing financial assistance but also working towards creating a better learning environment for students across Malaysia.

Encouraging More Companies to Get Involved
The School Adoption Initiative was proposed by the Prime Minister as a way for the private sector to help address challenges faced by schools, particularly in underserved areas.

Fahmi added that companies interested in adopting schools can coordinate with the Ministry of Education (KPM) to ensure a structured and effective implementation.

“We believe that by working together, we can make a real difference in the education sector. The government is open to discussions with any company that wishes to be part of this effort,” he said.

With TNB leading the way, the government hopes more corporations and GLCs will come forward to invest in the future of education, ensuring that schools across the country have the facilities and support they need to provide quality education for all.
