Unique Travel Destinations: Saudi Arabia Offers Exclusive Benefits for Malaysian Umrah Pilgrims
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, September 16, 2024: Since launching the unified government platform “Nusuk” in 2022 in collaboration with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the Saudi Tourism Authority has been rolling out a wide range of comprehensive digital services and information to make the Umrah journey smoother than ever. This initiative aligns with the ambitious goal of welcoming 30 million pilgrims as part of Saudi Vision 2030.
The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia dates back to the 1960s (1961), evolving into a strategic partnership in recent years. In light of this strong connection, Saudi Arabia has included Malaysia among 67 countries whose citizens are eligible for an electronic visit visa through the “Visit Saudi” platform or upon arrival at one of the Kingdom’s international entry points. This opens the door for Malaysians to visit Saudi Arabia, perform Umrah, pray at the Prophet’s Mosque, and explore the historical and cultural landmarks in Mecca and Medina. Malaysian pilgrims can stay for up to 90 days within a year, offering ample time to experience these sacred sites.
With Malay (Bahasa Malaysia) being the official language of Malaysia, “Nusuk” offers its services in Malay as one of 10 supported languages. Pilgrims also have access to a 24/7 unified call center for assistance, as well as travel platforms where they can book a variety of programs and packages, comparing options offered by private sector partners.
Recognizing the importance of the Malaysian tourism market, the Saudi Tourism Authority organized a unique five-day interactive exhibition (August 28 – September 1, 2024) at the IOI City Mall in Putrajaya. Over 10 Malaysian travel and Umrah companies participated, drawing large crowds from various age groups. Attendees were captivated by virtual reality (VR) experiences, exploring immersive Islamic historical stories.
After completing their pilgrimage and visiting Medina, Malaysian pilgrims can discover Saudi Arabia’s diverse tourism destinations, offering rich cultural, shopping, and recreational experiences. In Mecca, they can explore the “Cultural District of Hira,” which includes the “Exhibition of Revelation,” an interactive display of the story of divine revelation, as well as the “Holy Quran Museum,” the first of its kind in Mecca. Visitors can also hike to the historic Cave of Hira, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received his first revelation. Another must-visit is the “Saudi Coffee Museum,” where guests can enjoy the unique flavors of traditional Saudi coffee.
In Medina, pilgrims can visit key Islamic sites such as the Prophet’s Mosque, Quba Mosque, Qiblatain Mosque, and the Baqi’ Cemetery. They can also learn about the history of the Prophet’s migration, climb Mount Uhud, and pay their respects at the Field of Uhud Martyrs, a site commemorating the historic Battle of Uhud. Additional points of interest include the Palace of Urwa bin al-Zubair and the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran.
For those looking to explore further, a two-hour drive from Medina leads to the natural wonders of “Khaybar Oasis.” Known for its volcanic landscapes, fresh water, and fertile soil, Khaybar offers opportunities to observe a variety of plants and wildlife. Visitors can explore the famous Rowaan attraction, enjoy self-guided walks, or cycle around the oasis to sites like Nizar Castle.
Another top destination is “Al Ula,” a living museum brimming with historical charm and natural beauty. Visitors can experience the ancient city of Dadan, UNESCO World Heritage site Hegra, and the modern architectural wonder, the mirrored Maraya Hall in Ashar Valley. AlUla offers scenic hikes and unforgettable experiences for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
Malaysian pilgrims will also find themselves enchanted by the bustling city of Jeddah, famous for its cultural diversity, pristine beaches, and historic sites. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old city, Al-Balad, where ancient buildings stand as a testament to the city’s rich heritage. Don’t miss the chance to visit the ancient Al-Shafi’i Mosque, a 1,400-year-old house of worship that continues to attract visitors. Jeddah’s top-notch malls are a haven for shopaholics, while the city’s beaches offer relaxation or adventure through fishing, island hopping, and diving. Visitors can also marvel at the King Fahd Fountain, the tallest of its kind in the world, shooting water 312 meters into the sky.
With endless adventures awaiting, Saudi Arabia offers Malaysian pilgrims a blend of spirituality and discovery in a land rich with history and modern wonders.
