MEXICO CITY , December 7, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Although the presence of women is greater in various labor sectors, an area that requires a greater female presence is the energy industry. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) estimates that only 16% of women work in industrial sectors.
Rosa de Guadalupe González Huerta, from the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Extractive Industries of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), expressed that the area of science and technology in the solar sector needs more women.
He added that energy should be a niche of unity for men and women to complement progress in this area, adding that women are very detail-oriented and men are more analytical, which allows for greater conjunction.
“It is estimated that the renewable energy and academic research labor sector only has a 22% presence of women. Women need to learn more about handling tools,” she said.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) details that women perform best in the manufacture of solar systems. Furthermore, they divide their labor participation into various segments since they represent 47% of the basic workforce; 39% in services; 37% promoters; and 12% in photovoltaic installation.
