Envana Secures $5.2 Million Grant for Methane Mitigation Technology Project

HOUSTON, Jan. 17, 2025 / — Envana Software Solutions, a leader in emissions management technology, has been awarded a $4.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to advance methane monitoring and mitigation technologies in the oil and gas sector. The funding, totaling $5.26 million, is part of the DOE’s Methane Emissions Reduction Program, under the Methane Emissions Reduction Program Oil and Gas Methane Monitoring and Mitigation initiative. This award includes $4,209,348 in federal funding and $1,052,337 in non-federal funding.

Envana’s project, titled “Software for Methane Leak Detection Using Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) Data to Guide Mitigation,” has been selected under Area of Interest 2c: Field Deployment of Emissions Reduction Technologies at Oil and Gas Production Facilities. The project aims to empower oil and gas operators, tribes, and other organizations across the country to enhance their ability to reduce, monitor, measure, and quantify methane emissions.

Envana’s platform integrates operational data with methane detection inputs from multiple sources, providing accurate emissions quantification and source attribution. The software enables companies to strengthen their Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) programs and implement effective emissions reduction strategies. By aligning with international standards such as OGMP 2.0, Envana’s technology supports businesses in building comprehensive methane management systems and meeting sustainability targets.

The grant will allow Envana to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) and physics-based models, combining production facility sensor data with methane monitoring systems. This effort will enhance the understanding of methane emissions, improve accuracy, and facilitate quicker, more cost-effective remediation through timely insights and alerts.

In addition, Envana plans to collaborate with universities and local organizations to improve methane emissions quantification, increase transparency for affected communities, and support workforce development. The initiative will also provide opportunities for internships, fostering future professionals committed to environmental protection.

Envana’s co-lead director, Nagaraj Srinivasan, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “These advancements will empower operators to achieve their methane mitigation targets and uphold their ESG commitments with greater efficiency and impact.”

PR Panigrahi, Managing Director and Head of Energy and Decarbonization Investments at Siguler Guff, added, “By collaborating with Texas universities and industry associations, we are advancing methane management. Our solution will allow the oil and gas sector to reduce emissions, meet regulations, and cut costs, while supporting workforce development and environmental sustainability.”

The project will enable Envana’s emissions management suite to become the first industry solution offering a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory. Tailored specifically to oil and gas workflows, it will empower operators to manage emissions throughout the entire lifecycle—spanning planning, operations, and reporting—while driving progress in mitigation efforts.
