Semikron Danfoss Graduates First Apprentices Through National GAINS Workforce Initiative

UTICA, N.Y., May 4, 2025 – Semikron Danfoss has officially graduated its first cohort of apprentices through the Industrial Manufacturing Technician RA Program, an achievement that highlights the company’s commitment to workforce innovation and regional growth in the semiconductor industry.

The graduation took place on National Apprenticeship Day, a newly recognized U.S. Department of Labor initiative aimed at spotlighting the impact of Registered Apprenticeships in preparing the future workforce. Fifteen graduates completed the program, developed under the GAINS initiative by NIICA, with instructional support from Mohawk Valley Community College and coordination from MACNY.

“This is a model of modern workforce development,” said Michael Frame of MACNY. “It shows how strategic partnerships can build pipelines into high-skill industries that need talent now.”

New York has seen over $100 billion in semiconductor-related investments since 2022. Programs like this ensure that local workers are ready to seize these opportunities with hands-on training and industry credentials.

Michael Godsen, General Manager of Semikron Danfoss, noted, “These graduates are now equipped to thrive in advanced manufacturing roles. It’s a win for them, for us, and for the state’s growing tech economy.”

NIICA President Mike Russo concluded, “These outcomes reflect the power of collaboration. With initiatives like GAINS and our Career Opportunity Hubs, we’re not just closing workforce gaps—we’re unlocking potential.”
