Car crashes into six motorcyclists sheltering from rain

Police seek info from public on early morning NKVE accident near Cyberjaya

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have called on the public to come forward with information on a traffic accident this morning near Cyberjaya, which saw the deaths of three motorcyclists and serious injuries to three others.

In a statement today, Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said that the fatal incident happened early this morning on the New Klang Valley Expressway and involved a car heading to Cyberjaya.

He added that initial investigations found that the driver of a Honda City, a 26-year-old local man, had lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a group of motorcyclists who were seeking shelter from the rain under an overhead bridge.

“Three motorcyclists died at the scene while the other three have been sent to Sg Buloh Hospital for further treatment,” Fakhrudin said.

It is learnt that the deceased motorcyclists were aged between 18 and 37.

Fakhrudin also said that the driver has been detained by police under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and causing loss of life to others.
