Fahmi visits Information Department’s Election Media Centre

KUALA LUMPUR – Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil on Sunday visited the Information Department (JaPen) Election Media Centre at Kuala Langat, Selangor.

The media centre is established for the state election. Other media centres are stationed at Sabak Bernam (Selangor), Seremban (Negeri Sembilan) and Alor Setar (Kedah) supervised by the Digital and Communication Ministry and JaPen.

During the visit, Fahmi addressed the media centre operations situated at the Kuala Langat district office. Dato’ Sukari Abd Hamid, JaPen Director General also present during the visit.

JaPen also created the ‘Virtual Media Centre’ via Whatsapp to facilitate the media personnel engaged in the state elections in Selangor, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

The media centre will function as a hub to disseminate election press releases, candidate schedules, and Election Commission (EC) information.

The centre also provides a working space facility for media personnel registered with JaPen, press conference facility, and high-speed internet facility.

Also, Bernama reported that the Minister (Fahmi) will ask the Information Department to study the suitability and best version of media centres that should be set up during elections to meet the needs of media practitioners.

Its minister Fahmi Fadzil said this was because newsmen mostly stationed themselves in the field when covering elections.

“Today, I visited one of the two media centres operated by Japen, namely in Kuala Langat (the other in Sabak Bernam), opened in conjunction with the state elections in Selangor, and found there are facilities and equipment readily available,” he told the media here today.

“However, during the ongoing polls, many of them are out there in the field, and I have asked JaPen to study this and conduct a post-mortem on how we can adapt the media centres to newsmen’s actual tasks,” he said.
