Former Malaysia national golfer Jalal Deran dies at 76

Former national golf champion Jalal Deran, who is known for winning the Malaysian Open Golf Championship in 1969, Asian Senior Masters Golf in 1968 and 1969 as well as representing the country in World Amateur Golf 1969 and 1972 in the United States and Australia has died at the age of 76.

IPOH – Former national golf champion Jalal Deran died at the age of 76 at his home in Kg Datuk Ahmad Said Tambahan 3, Manjoi here today.

His nephew Ahmad Zailani Darwis, 56, said Jalal, who was born in Ipoh, breathed his last at about 11am.

“My uncle, who suffered from stage five kidney disease, had just recovered from Covid-19 and returned home after receiving treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for a few days after complaining of being unwell and having a fever,” he told Bernama when contacted.

Jalal was buried at the Gurap Muslim cemetery after Asar prayers.

He leaves behind wife Robayah Mat Rais, 76, and five children.

His successes included winning the Malaysian Open Golf Championship in 1969, Asian Senior Masters Golf in 1968 and 1969 as well as representing the country in World Amateur Golf 1969 and 1972 in the United States and Australia.
