Get fundamental reforms and agenda to deliver, in the wake of state polls result — Wong Chen

KUALA LUMPUR — Subang member of parliament Wong Chen has urged the government and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to organise the coalition parties on what fundamental reforms are agreeable to all, and then vigorously set an agenda to deliver them.

In a Facebook posting, Wong commented that while the overall result is 3-3, this state election has been a bruising fight for PH-BN. The opposition PN has indeed made gains in Selangor and Penang.

“However, interestingly in Negeri Sembilan, the PH-BN coalition did much better. This is our main source of hope going forward.
“While PH-BN needs a detailed review of what went wrong in other states, I would stress that the more important move is to study and adopt the PH-BN model in Negeri Sembilan.
“How did the Negeri Sembilan team create a Perpaduan coalition in just 8 months into an effective election campaign team? PN which is a 4-year-old coalition, was stopped cold by an 8-month-old PH-BN coalition there.
“Therefore the formula for future PH-BN victory is there in Negeri Sembilan.
“Lastly, this state election is also a wake-up call for the government to reform. Not rocking the cobbled together coalition boat is not helping nor producing political results at the polls.”
In particular, for the sake of democracy and fighting corruption, we need the Parliamentary Services Act and Political Financing Act to be passed in Parliament as soon as possible, he added.
