Home ministry signs contracts worth over RM2bil with local firms

KUALA LUMPUR,. The home ministry has inked 14 contracts with local companies valued at RM2.156 billion in conjunction with the Defence Services Asia Exhibition and the Asia National Security Exhibition 2024.

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the signing of the contracts reflected the ministry’s continuous efforts to boost the efficiency of agencies under its purview.

“The contract segments signed (include) for information technology, logistics as well as asset upgrades,” he said.

Of the 14 contracts signed, 12 were for the police and worth RM1.57 billion.

One of the contracts was for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), valued at RM529.66 million, and the other was for the national registration department (JPN), worth RM52.36 million.

“It shows that the ministry views the police as an important agency that must be supported to ensure its state of readiness,” he told reporters after the signing ceremony here.

The high-impact contracts include the acquisition of a multi-purpose police transport vessel as a cargo carrier (mothership) for the police and four medium lift helicopters for the MMEA.

The local companies that signed the contracts include TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Labuan Shipyard Engineering Sdn Bhd.

Saifuddin said the purchase of helicopters for the MMEA was a priority due to the agency’s essential role in safeguarding the nation’s territorial waters.

“The helicopters should be supplied in two years,” he added.
