Malaysia telco firms reach agreement on equity participation in DNB 

KUALA LUMPUR – Telecommunication firms CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia, U-Mobile and YTL Communications will finalize the equity participation process in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), the 5G agency.

Fahmi Fadzil, Communication and Digital Minister in a statement said, as per the commitment given before, Maxis has started the process to sign a 5G access agreement with DNB after finalizing several issues related to the matter was finalized on 11 July 2023.

“Maxis customers will start enjoying 5G services once Maxis gets the holder’s approval at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) next month.

“CelcomDigi, Telecom Malaysia, U-Mobile and YTL Communications have already offered the 5G service after signing a 5G access agreement with DNB last year.”

As of 30 June 2023, DNB has developed a 5G network infrastructure covering 64.7 percent coverage in populated areas and is on track to achieve the set target.

The meeting was chaired by Malaysia’s 5G Dual Network Implementation Task Force headed by the Chief Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications and Digital has succeeded in reaching an agreement related to equity participation in DNB.
