Award-winning smart air conditioning redefines cooling efficiency and flexibility
Midea’s PortaSplit smart air conditioner takes center stage, combining cutting-edge cooling technology with unprecedented flexibility. This innovative home appliance will be launched for the first time in 2024 and Midea is proud to present this product at IFA 2023.
Unlike conventional air conditioning units, the Midea PortaSplit air conditioner seamlessly combines the portability of a portable air conditioner with the excellent cooling performance and efficiency of a split air conditioner. This unique combination provides powerful and quiet cooling comfort that goes beyond the limitations of existing cooling solutions.
It is important to note that Midea’s PortaSplit is a direct response to the needs of modern consumers. It has long been a challenge to find a balance between cooling efficiency, energy saving, flexibility and ease of installation. “A plumber is needed for permanent split air conditioning. However, due to high demand, there is often a wait of up to four months. If you don’t request it early enough, you won’t have time to install it for the summer. Another problem is the cost, as the installation alone can cost around 2,000 euros , not including the price of the air conditioning. Midea PortaSplit represents a more affordable option,” said Manuel Seethaler , head of public relations and strategy at Midea Germany ‘s research center in Stuttgart.

PortaSplit brings two key innovations. It is the first plug-and-play split air conditioner without the need for fixed installation. Another notable feature of the PortaSplit is its excellent cooling performance, as it uses highly efficient heat pump technology. It is a portable air conditioner that has the same efficiency as a conventional split air conditioner, with a powerful cooling capacity of 3.5 kW and a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 6.1, surpassing all other portable air conditioners on the market.
In terms of cooling performance and energy efficiency, the PortaSplit device significantly outperforms conventional portable air conditioners. According to StiWa’s test conditions, the PortaSplit had four times better cooling performance and three times higher energy efficiency compared to a conventional portable air conditioner.
In addition, the heat exchange system of the PortaSplit device allows cooling of the entire room without venting the air to the outside, thus increasing the cooling performance and maintaining a constant air pressure. PortaSplit can cool a room in just 15 minutes. Based on typical weather conditions in Germany, the estimated operating costs are only €26 per month for the entire cooling season.
Energy saving is another key aspect of the PortaSplit design. The improved algorithms of Midea with the help of artificial intelligence bring up to 15% additional energy savings. It thus ensures continuous and efficient cooling by adapting performance according to changing environmental conditions and improved predictive models.
