No directive from ministry to block news portal, says Fahmi

This follows reports that MalaysiaNow website has become inaccessible to most readers

KUALA LUMPUR – The Communications and Digital Ministry has stated that no order has been issued to block any news portal in the country. Its minister, Fahmi Fadzil, said that he is aware of a news portal reporting that it is not fully accessible to internet users.

“There is no order to block any media or news portal,” he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.

Since Tuesday afternoon, the MalaysiaNow website has been inaccessible to most readers.

According to the portal’s report, their technical experts’ investigation did not show any unusual activity affecting the portal’s server.

“We also found that there was no attack on our website,” it reported.

According to Awani, a situation was observed where users of two main mobile networks in Malaysia are unable to access the website, while some are still able to access the portal.
