Peru to promote socioeconomic inclusion and resilient development at APEC

LIMA, April 25 (NNN-ANDINA) — Secretary General of Foreign Affairs Elmer Schialer said that Peru will promote socioeconomic inclusion and resilient development at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), for the benefit of the most vulnerable groups.

Moreover, the government official thanked the US Department of State for its cooperation.

Remarks were delivered at the Third APEC Capacity Building Module: Supporting Peru’s 2024 Host Year.

Held in the Peruvian capital Lima from April 24 to 26, the event takes place within the framework of Peru’s APEC Presidency in 2024.

Moreover, it is aimed at Peruvian public officials, who will strengthen their skills for the upcoming APEC meetings, with the support of international experts from the United States, Chile, and New Zealand.

Founded in November 1989, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum is made up of 21 Asia-Pacific economies.

It seeks to promote trade and investment liberalization, facilitate business, as well as promote economic and technical cooperation in order to achieve prosperity among member economies.

Members are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam.

Peru joined the forum in 1998 and has hosted APEC twice (in 2008 and 2016). It will become the host again in 2024. — NNN-ANDINA
