Tenaga Nasional Berhad is launching a system called FARA to help manage flood risks.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is staying ahead by launching a new system called the Flood Analysis and Risk Assessment (FARA) System. This system is regularly updated to help control flood risks effectively.

Mahathir Nor Ismail, the Chief Distribution Network Officer at TNB, said that the FARA system helps find TNB assets that could be impacted by floods. This lets us act quickly before things get worse.

The system is built using information from groups like the Irrigation and Drainage Department, the Malaysian Meteorological Department, and the National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia.

“The information is used to decide what to do next, like sending out patrols to places that might be affected,” he said on the Awani Pagi show on Thursday.

He also said that FARA helps TNB provide better services to customers, especially in places that have floods.

Mahathir also emphasized that keeping consumers safe during floods is the top priority for TNB.

If a substation cannot safely provide electricity, it will be shut down.

“But other devices like portable generators and big power banks will be used to keep the electricity running,” he said.

He also suggested that people turn off the main electricity switch at home if it is safe to do so, and to call TNB to cut off the electricity in their area.

“Please keep away from wet electrical wires and devices because they can be dangerous and give you an electric shock,” he said.
