Early voting: GOF, FRU personnel cast ballots at GOF Central Brigade HQ in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) — The early voting process for the state polls involving police personnel and their spouses at the General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade Headquarters in Cheras which began at 8 am today has gone smoothly so far, said Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, when inspecting the balloting process, said the early voting involved 1,031 GOF personnel and 801 members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU).

“Alhamdulillah, the early voting process is running smoothly and under control and we expect it to end at 12 noon,” he said when met by reporters at the GOF Central Brigade Headquarters here.

Ayob Khan arrived at GOF Central Brigade Headquarters at 7.45 am accompanied by GOF Central Brigade commander SAC Zulkifli Jonit.

He then proceeded to inspect the early voting centre for GOF personnel at Sekolah KAFA Integrasi Markas Briged Tengah PGA.

Ayob Khan then inspected the early voting centre for FRU personnel at Dewan Kompleks Perdana Pasukan Simpanan Persekutuan in Cheras, accompanied by FRU commander Mohd Said Ibrahim.

According to the Election Commission (EC) website, early voting in the six-state elections will involve 49,660 Malaysian Armed Forces personnel and 47,728 police personnel, along with their spouses.

Whereas, the early voting for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election will involve 1,362 police personnel and 35 military personnel as well as their spouses.

The EC has set the nomination day and early voting for the state polls and the Kuala Terengganu by-election for July 29 and Aug 8, respectively, while polling day is Aug 12.
